Hi, I'm Lourens

I am an empathic and warm therapist. I like working with adult and older adult clients. I became a psychologist after returning to study as a mature age student after a long career in a corporate environment.

My internship was interrupted by a spinal cord injury that left me a quadriplegic. After an extended stay in hospital, I went back to work and completed my internship. During my internship I completed a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy to improve my therapeutic skills. I have extensive experience in working with people with addictive behaviours and a history of trauma. I have a passion for helping my clients to recognise and understand the impact of their life experiences in their lives, to find meaning and to overcome deep seated fear and anger that are the roots of anxiety and depression. My most recent experience is to guide my clients to adjust to a rapidly changing world and to find innovative solutions. I am a General Psychologist with experience in face-to-face individual therapy, telehealth and Parole and Probation.

My Approach

I use evidence-based modalities in therapy, especially motivational interviewing, and cognitive behaviour therapy. I also use elements of existential therapy like logotherapy and mindfulness.
