Psychologist
Simon is a warm, friendly and engaging Psychologist who has been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. He believes that everyone will have life challenges at work or in their relationships than can managed effectively or even turned into opportunities for growth
Simon has worked in many different areas of mental health. Areas that Simon has worked in extensively are treating Depression/Anxiety, Alcohol and Drug issues and clients presenting with employment and personal relationship relationship issues. He has a research interest in managing major mental illness through therapeutic treatment in addition to medication. He also has an interest in Aboriginal and first nation’s health and has worked in a variety of private and publicly funded settings. Simon believes in the benefit of outdoors nature-based activities as a great way to behaviorally manage mood and stress. Finally Simon believes that people viewing themselves and others through a lens of perfectionism can also cause ongoing issues and works to remedy this as part of treatment
Simon’s practice includes the belief that the majority of alcohol and drug issues are related to an underlying disorder and interpersonal trauma and once they are treated the person will reduce their subsequent drug and alcohol use.
Simon uses a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Approach primarily as this lifts the client's confidence as they gain the skills to manage their own mood. Acceptance and Commitment therapy and Interpersonal Therapy can also be useful to help people navigate major life changes and transitions.
Additionally Simon also has interests in adolescent health and group therapy with adults to help address anxiety/depression. Finally he is very experienced in helping clients navigate career issues (including those linked to COVID 19).
“Moods can be easily managed by the client after some training. Positive things can be attracted into some ones life easier after this training ”
