Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but it’s a safe and supportive space just for you. A psychologist who specialises in adolescent mental health will help you navigate challenges like school stress, friendships, family dynamics, and self-confidence. Through guided conversations and activities, you’ll learn to understand your thoughts, manage emotions, and build the skills to handle life’s ups and downs.

Each teenager therapy session is tailored to your needs, ensuring you feel heard, supported, and empowered to take positive steps forward. Whether you're working through a specific issue or just want to feel more in control of your emotions, therapy is a space to grow and gain new perspectives.

Getting started with teenager therapy

  1. Find Your Psychologist & Sign Up

Use our matching tool or browse profiles to find the right fit. Create your My Mirror account and ensure you enter your guardian’s details.

  2. Book a Session

We have early morning, after-hours, and weekend availability, ensuring there's always a spot for you. Say goodbye to wait times.

  3. Guardian Consent (Under 16)

If you're 12-15, a parent or guardian must sign a minor consent before your first session. They’ll receive an email to complete consent, which is sent automatically—no action needed!

  4. Start Your Session

Log in and hit ‘Join Session’ when it’s time. If you're under 16, a guardian needs to attend your first session.

Topics you can talk about in therapy

Academic Stress

Balancing schoolwork, exams, and extracurricular activities can be overwhelming. Therapy offers strategies to manage time effectively and cope with academic pressures.

Anxiety and Depression

Feelings of anxiety and depression are prevalent among teens. Teen psychology sessions provide a safe space to explore these emotions and develop coping mechanisms.

Family Conflicts

Navigating family dynamics can be challenging. Therapy assists in improving communication and resolving conflicts within the family unit.

Peer Relationships

Building and maintaining friendships can be complex. Online psychology helps teens develop social skills and navigate peer-related challenges.

Self-Esteem

Many teenagers struggle with self-image. Teen therapy focuses on building self-confidence and fostering a positive self-concept.

Identity Exploration

Adolescence is a time of self-discovery. Online therapy supports teens in exploring their personal, cultural, and gender identities.

Coping with Trauma

Experiencing trauma can significantly impact a teen's well-being. Therapy provides a space to process traumatic events and develop resilience.

Life Transitions

Changes, such as moving to a new school or parental dynamics changes, can be disruptive. Therapy helps teens adapt to these transitions and manage the associated stress.

Addictive Behaviours

Whether it’s excessive phone use, gaming, or experimenting with substances like alcohol or drugs, therapy provides a safe space to explore these habits, understand their impact, and develop healthier coping strategies.

I am 16-17 years of age

Choose a psychologist that feels right for you using our Get Matched tool or the online psychologists tab. Since you're 16 or 17, you can book and attend sessions on your own, no guardian consent needed.

Your therapy sessions are completely private and focused on what matters to you. If you want to access Medicare rebates for your sessions, you can visit your GP to get a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan. Whether you need support with stress, friendships, mental well-being, or anything else on your mind, our psychologists are here to help.

I am 12-15 years of age

Pick a psychologist that feels right for you using our Get Matched tool or the online psychologists tab. Since you're between 12-15, your parent or guardian will need to give consent before your first session. They’ll get an email to sign the minor consent form, no stress, it’s all automatic and easy to complete!

Because you're under 16, a guardian will also need to join your first session. This helps make sure everything gets off to a smooth start and gives you the best support as you begin therapy.

If you want to access Medicare rebates for your sessions, you can visit your GP to get a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan.

I have a child under 12

My Mirror can only accept children aged 12 and above for Telehealth services, as it may not be the most suitable therapy method for younger children. For children under 12, we recommend in-person sessions with a psychologist, as they may benefit from play-based therapies and other age-appropriate approaches.

I am the guardian of a teen

Starting therapy is an important decision, and having an open conversation with your teenager about it is essential. If you're considering therapy for your teen, you can speak to your GP for guidance or use our Get Matched tool to find a psychologist who suits their needs.

If your teen is aged 12-15 years, a Minor Consent Form must be completed by the parent or guardian before therapy begins. Additionally, a guardian is required to be present for the first session to ensure a supportive and seamless start to their therapy journey.
