Guardian Consent (Under 16)
If you're 12-15, a parent or guardian must sign a minor consent before your first session. They’ll receive an email to complete consent, which is sent automatically—no action needed!
Start Your Session
Log in and hit ‘Join Session’ when it’s time. If you're under 16, a guardian needs to attend your first session.
I am 16-17 years of age
Choose a psychologist that feels right for you using our Get Matched tool or the online psychologists tab. Since you're 16 or 17, you can book and attend sessions on your own, no guardian consent needed.
Your therapy sessions are completely private and focused on what matters to you. If you want to access Medicare rebates for your sessions, you can visit your GP to get a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan. Whether you need support with stress, friendships, mental well-being, or anything else on your mind, our psychologists are here to help.

Because you're under 16, a guardian will also need to join your first session. This helps make sure everything gets off to a smooth start and gives you the best support as you begin therapy.

I have a child under 12
My Mirror can only accept children aged 12 and above for Telehealth services, as it may not be the most suitable therapy method for younger children. For children under 12, we recommend in-person sessions with a psychologist, as they may benefit from play-based therapies and other age-appropriate approaches.
I am the guardian of a teen
Starting therapy is an important decision, and having an open conversation with your teenager about it is essential. If you're considering therapy for your teen, you can speak to your GP for guidance or use our Get Matched tool to find a psychologist who suits their needs.
If your teen is aged 12-15 years, a Minor Consent Form must be completed by the parent or guardian before therapy begins. Additionally, a guardian is required to be present for the first session to ensure a supportive and seamless start to their therapy journey.
Frequently Asked Questions
Teenager therapy is available for individuals aged 13 to 17 years. For teens aged 12-15 years, a minor consent form is required to be completed by the guardian, and a guardian is required to attend the first session. Teens aged 16-17 can book a session with no guardian consent required.
Online therapy sessions are conducted through secure video calls directly through your My Mirror account, allowing teenagers to connect with a psychologist in a private and comfortable setting. This makes therapy more accessible, especially for those who may feel anxious about attending in-person sessions.
Before the session, the teenager and their parent/guardian will receive an email to log on to their account and join the call. The session will be similar to an in-person consultation, where the psychologist provides support, coping strategies, and a safe space to discuss emotions and challenges.
Parental involvement may vary based on the teenager’s needs. Some sessions may include parents for guidance, while others will be one-on-one with the psychologist to encourage open discussions.
Yes, Medicare rebates may be available for teenager therapy if they have a valid GP referral letter and Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from their GP. The MHCP allows for a set number of rebated sessions per year. The number of eligible sessions depends on Medicare’s guidelines and the referring doctor’s assessment.
If a teenager is not eligible for Medicare or has used all their rebated sessions, private fees will apply. Some private health insurance plans may also cover psychology sessions, so it’s worth checking with your provider.
Teen therapy can support teenagers experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, family conflict, school pressures, friendship difficulties, trauma, and more. A psychologist can help them develop coping strategies and navigate challenges in a safe space.
