Hi, I'm Ally

Welcome! I understand the importance of finding someone you can trust to help you through life's challenges and I am looking forward to connecting with you.

So, a little bit about me: I am a New Zealander and an Australian and I love the great outdoors and traveling around this beautiful planet. I am married, a parent to human children and fur babies, and have spent most of my working life in healthcare-related jobs. I believe we are here to help each other make the most of this one wild and precious life and this fuels my work as a psychologist.

I have been a psychologist for over 20 years now, and feel extremely privileged to work in this field, bearing witness to many people’s struggles and assisting them on their life journey. I am trained as a general and health psychologist, as I have been inspired since my early twenties to help people of all ages cope with physical and mental health issues. My experience as a psychologist has included providing services in government organisations, research, and educational settings, as well as private practice. I have a extensive experience working in health environments such as hospitals and community health centres, with medical practitioners, other allied health professionals, and nurses, assisting people with both acute and chronic health conditions back to wellness. Some examples include people living with cancer, diabetes, head and musculoskeletal injuries and sexual health issues. My most extensive experience is working with people living with persistent pain, as both a clinician and multidisciplinary team manager. I have also loved working with people of different walks of life such as current and ex-serving members and families of the Australian Defence Force, children and young people and their families facing mental health challenges, those experiencing significant grief and loss and people suffering from burnout and stress, including eco distress resulting from the accelerating impacts of climate change.

My Approach

My approach is very much personalised to you and your unique needs, and my starting place is always to be open minded and non-judgmental. l draw on psychological research and evidence-based practices to help you through your challenges, whilst being holistic and compassionate to your particular circumstances, personality, and goals for therapy. The main psychological therapies I use are trauma-informed and include cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, motivational interviewing, and schema therapy. I am currently strengthening my knowledge and skills in internal family systems therapy, emotional freedom techniques, and somatic therapies.
